"In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different."
-- Coco Chanel
Last fall, my sister-in-law who works for Chanel was helping put on an event at the Watertable Restaurant at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa, and she asked me to photograph their cocktail hour. I have to admit at first I was really nervous! I don't normally do events, and rarely shoot at night with my flash, so I was feeling a bit unsure if I could do it. On top of that, I was intimidated by being around all those beautiful Chanel people! What should I wear? My style is VERY casual (I wear flip-flops 99% of the time!) and so I was kinda freaking out about what to wear. Then of course I reasoned with myself, and came to my senses -- I'm not the one in FRONT of the camera, so WHO CARES!?!? Ha ha. Isn't it funny how we psyche ourselves out about the silliest things? I pulled myself together, made sure my camera bag was packed and was on my way. It was a low-key event - I felt much more at ease when I saw everyone in their Chanel t-shirts! It was a bit awkward at first because I didn't want to be in the way, but wanted to make sure I was getting enough photos. Luckily, all of the attendees were super friendly and not camera shy at all! It was a gorgeous October night, and a beautiful atmosphere out on the patio of the restaurant. I had a lot of fun meeting everyone and enjoyed myself more than I thought I would! At the time, I wasn't sure what the images would be used for, but later found out that they were to be displayed on a big screen at a slideshow. I really hope everyone enjoyed seeing these pictures and remembering a nice evening in Huntington Beach!
